All courses are not created equal. So it is important that you know what to expect before enrolling! Complete our personality and reality checks below before choosing a course!

Personality check!
Our courses come in a variety of schedules and formats, and the following should help you determine whether the course is a good “fit” for your study habits and preferences.

Are you . . .

A procrastinator? Consider this fair warning for Phar 1002, 1003, 1004, and 5201: these courses have one major due date – the date by which all your exams must be completed. If you put things off, that could be a crazy time for you, trying to take a semester worth of exams in one sitting or even within one week!  If you’re a strong procrastinator, you might be better off enrolling in Phar 1001 or 4200/5200 – these courses require you to meet a few deadlines throughout the semester, keeping you on track with your coursework.

Living off-campus? If it’s a hassle for you to come to campus, be aware that Phar 1002, 1003, 1004 and 5201 require you to complete exams at in-person testing sessions held on campus. However, there are plenty of times for you to choose from – during the fall and spring, we offer 25 testing sessions on the Twin Cities campus, including some evenings, mornings and Saturdays. Our other courses have online testing (Phar 1001, 4200/5200), which may be more convenient for you.

Tired of staring at a computer screen? If you can’t handle the thought of staring at a computer screen another minute, you should consider taking Phar 1002 or 5201. These courses have a required online orientation, but the rest of the online learning materials are optional.  The majority of your work is with the textbook.

Not a fan of taking tests? If taking tests isn’t your specialty, you might want to consider Phar 1001 or Phar 4200/5200. While these courses still have exams, they also have graded assignments that will be factored into your grade.

Reality check!

At first glance, our courses may seem similar. Taking a closer look can show you exactly where and how they are different, and help you choose the course that is right for you!

Prerequisites: There are no prereqs for any of the courses except Phar 5201 (see note). You may take the courses in any order.
